The World Trade Organization’s World Trade Statistical Review 2025 lists Bangladesh as the world’s second-largest exporter of ready-made garments for a fifth consecutive year.
The publication puts Bangladesh’s garment-export earnings at US$38.82 billion in the year it references.
That total was about US$2 billion higher than Vietnam’s garment exports, the review indicates.
Bangladesh’s exports rose by about 1 percent year on year, while Vietnam’s grew by about 11 percent, according to the WTO figures cited.
China remained the leading garment exporter, followed by Bangladesh and Vietnam; India ranked fourth and Turkey fifth.
The WTO data cited also showed a slight year-on-year decline in global garment exports.
Economist Mahfuz Kabir said Vietnam was advancing quickly and that India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Cambodia were also strengthening their positions in the market.
Kabir said Bangladesh would need more production automation and stronger competitiveness to preserve its second-place position.
