A Dhaka court ordered Sohel Rana held in jail after he completed a two-day remand in the murder case involving his wife, dentist Sarah Roksana Pinu.
Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin made the order on 5 August following an application by South Khan police investigator Habibur Rahman.
The court had rejected Rana’s bail request and granted the two-day remand on 3 August.
Pinu’s body was recovered from a residence in the Jamtala Lane area of Faidabad, South Khan, on 30 July.
Investigators said officers initially considered whether intruders had cut through a window grille, entered the home and committed a killing and theft.
They later said Criminal Investigation Department personnel found a shoe print on the interior balcony by the cut window grille.
Police said the print matched a pair of shoes found in the home and identified in the investigation as belonging to Rana.
Pinu’s sister, Sarah Sultana Poly, filed the murder case at South Khan police station on 31 July against unidentified people.
Police arrested Rana the following day as a suspect and initially sought seven days of remand.
In the application seeking his continued detention, the investigator said relatives alleged that Pinu had previously described threats and physical and psychological abuse by Rana.
The same application said Rana provided information relevant to the case during questioning, which investigators were checking.
Rana denied involvement, saying burglars entered the home, took jewellery and killed Pinu after she woke up.
He said he was at a work project site when the incident occurred and was informed after the couple’s daughter contacted him through her school.
Rana also said there had been family disagreements but no argument in the days immediately before Pinu’s death, and he rejected claims concerning her personal relationships.
The case complaint says Pinu was alone at home after Rana took their daughter to school and left for work that morning.
It says their daughter returned in the afternoon, found the home door partly closed and found Pinu unresponsive on a bed with a pillow over her face.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the court order does not determine Rana’s guilt.
