Dhaka South City Corporation held its monthly Cleaning Day in all 75 wards on Saturday, 1 August.
DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam inaugurated the programme and a waste-awareness procession at Shahbagh.
Salam said the initiative seeks greater public awareness and participation in waste management and dengue prevention.
He urged residents not to discard waste into drains, saying even items such as polythene or mattresses can obstruct drainage and contribute to waterlogging.
The administrator asked business owners to place bins outside their premises for waste disposal.
DSCC said its first-Saturday crash programme combines mosquito-control and waste-management work with the routine cleaning operation.
Under the programme, the corporation plans to clean neglected locations and blocked drains, and invited social, volunteer and political organisations to take part.
The procession travelled through major roads and important areas of the capital, with participants distributing leaflets on waterlogging, proper waste handling and the harmful effects of plastic pollution.
DSCC Chief Executive Md Khaybar Rahman attended alongside volunteers, students, environmental activists, social-organisation members and corporation staff.
