Dhaka South City Corporation has allocated Tk327 crore for sanitation in the 2026–27 fiscal year.
The previous year’s original allocation for the sector was Tk90.23 crore, later revised to Tk80.38 crore.
DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam said the corporation has reorganised its sanitation system around the government’s Clean City, Green City initiative.
He said cleaning work would operate in shifts in every ward, with assigned staff for specified roads and separate ward-level monitoring teams.
Salam said DSCC is running public-awareness activities with BD Clean and Sajeda Foundation to encourage residents to place waste at designated locations.
He said city inspectors are being trialled in Motijheel, while a Clean Care mobile application and hotline have been introduced for public complaints and suggestions.
DSCC also holds a monthly Cleaning Day on the first Saturday to involve residents in sanitation work, Salam said.
The administrator said six secondary transfer stations have been upgraded with sanitation facilities and that the corporation intends to modernise the rest in phases.
At the Matuail landfill, DSCC says it has covered waste with soil and established a resource circulation park and compost plant as part of efforts to address methane-related fires and pollution.
For monsoon waterlogging, Salam said DSCC removed waste from drains, box culverts and canals before the rains and identified 33 high-risk locations in 75 wards.
He said portable pumps, suction machines and ward emergency-response teams have been deployed to help keep drainage routes clear during heavy rain.
DSCC plans to build eight new drainage outlets, and Salam said two proposed routes—linking Science Lab and New Market to the Adi Buriganga channel, and Dhaka University, BUET and the Education Board to Sadarghat—have received government approval.
The Institute of Water Modelling has been tasked with preparing an integrated drainage master plan for 57 DSCC wards, the administrator said.
