State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed said Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in investing in Bangladeshi sectors including fisheries, food processing, renewable energy, solar power, information technology and artificial intelligence.
She said the Saudi side voiced full confidence in the government led by Prime Minister Tarek Rahman, which was formed after democratic elections.
She added that Saudi Arabia is interested in recruiting more skilled Bangladeshi workers.
A joint investment meeting is expected soon in Saudi Arabia with the participation of the BIDA chairman, and political consultation and joint working group meetings are planned this year.
Saudi Arabia has invited Prime Minister Tarek Rahman to visit, while Bangladesh has invited the Saudi Crown Prince; Shama Obaed said the prime minister is interested in travelling at a mutually convenient time.
The talks also covered the recent deaths of three Bangladeshi nationals in Saudi Arabia, with Saudi authorities helping to repatriate their bodies.
The high-level Saudi delegation included senior officials from the foreign, interior, consular and human resources ministries, as well as the Saudi ambassador to Bangladesh.
Shama Obaed said Rohingya passport and consular issues were not a main agenda item and that Bangladesh missions in Jeddah and Riyadh are working with Saudi authorities on such matters.
