Manohardi Upazila Administration said it has completed the re-excavation of two canals in Narsingdi and returned Tk 4,765,996 in unspent funds to the government treasury.
The work was implemented in fiscal year 2025–26 under a programme of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
It covered 1.620 kilometres of the Mahishakhali Canal and 2.100 kilometres of the Gangajali Canal, for a combined 3.720 kilometres.
The project allocation was Tk 9,587,033, the administration said.
The administration said the remaining Tk 4,765,996 was deposited in the treasury after the work was completed within the scheduled period.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer M A Muhaimin Al Jihan said coordination among departments, regular field monitoring and planned management enabled the project to be carried out.
He said close oversight at every stage and digital surveys used to measure the work helped avoid unnecessary costs, false labour bills and financial waste.
The administration said a project completion report had been sent to the relevant authorities following guidance from the Department of Disaster Management.
Officials said the re-excavation could reduce waterlogging, improve irrigation access, support agricultural production and benefit the local environment.
The administration’s project description in one account also included tree planting, although no details of that component were provided and the other account did not mention it.
