A Bangladeshi man was seriously injured by a mine explosion inside Myanmar near the Balukhali border in Ukhiya on 6 August.
Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar 34 Battalion, identified the injured man as Badi Alam of Jhumchhara in Palongkhali Union.
His age was reported inconsistently as either 42 or 32.
Khairul Alam said Badi Alam went fishing in the Naf River with local people on Thursday morning.
He said the group crossed the zero line into Myanmar, where a buried mine exploded at about 10am.
The commander said the explosion severed Badi Alam’s right heel and caused serious injuries to the right side of his body.
People with him took him to an MSF hospital in Kutupalong, Khairul Alam said.
He said Badi Alam was referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital after his condition worsened following initial treatment.
