Police arrested Arafat Hossain Rabbi in Chaugachha, Jashore, after a college student filed a rape case against him.

The complainant is an 18-year-old higher-secondary student who filed the case herself at Chaugachha police station.

The case complaint alleges that she sought Rabbi’s help to apply for a national identity card.

It further alleges that he took her by motorcycle to a residence in Chaugachha and raped her.

The complaint also alleges that she was threatened not to disclose the incident.

Police said she told her parents after returning home and later filed the case.

Chaugachha police said the complainant underwent a medical examination.

A chief judicial magistrate’s court in Jashore ordered Rabbi sent to jail after he was produced before it on Sunday.

Police said they will submit an investigation report to the court after completing their inquiry.

The Jashore district student organisation expelled Rabbi from its primary membership and all organisational posts.

Its district convenor said the action followed the rape accusation and that the organisation would not accept responsibility for an individual’s personal conduct.

A Chaugachha student organisation secretary said the allegation was false and claimed it stemmed from a 15-year dispute and ongoing litigation between the two families.
