Fazlul Haque took charge as administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on 2 August.
A Commerce Ministry order named him to the post under Section 17 of the Trade Organizations Act, 2022.
The reported date of the ministry’s appointment document differs, with one account citing 2 August and another citing 26 July.
His mandate includes keeping FBCCI’s activities running and completing an election within a maximum of 120 days.
He must hand over responsibility to the elected board after the election and notify the ministry.
Haque said he would arrange a free, fair and neutral election within the stipulated period.
He sought cooperation from relevant parties in completing the electoral process.
FBCCI Secretary General Md Alamgir said the secretariat would provide full support and work to ensure transparency, neutrality and accountability in the election process.
The previous administrator, former additional secretary Md Abdur Rahim Khan, was relieved of the responsibility effective from 27 June 2026.
The ministry order said two earlier administrators had not been able to hold an election within their allotted time.
The order cited the need to address FBCCI’s current impasse and restore momentum among the business community.
Haque previously served as president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association.
