Azadul Islam, known as Ghutu, 30, died after a snakebite in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha.
He was from Tarfokamal Shialgara village in Sapmara Union and was the son of the late Abdul Malek.
The bite occurred at about 5pm on August 3.
Kochashahar Union chairman Mozaffar Hossain said Islam had caught a venomous snake from a hole at a house in the Kochashahar area.
Hossain said Islam was handling the snake in preparation for a planned display when it bit him.
After he became ill, he was taken to a healer in the Shibshomudra area for ritual treatment intended to remove venom.
Accounts put the duration of that treatment at roughly six to seven hours.
He was brought to Gobindaganj উপজেলা Health Complex at about 11pm.
Medical officer Suman Pramanik said examinations showed that Islam had died about two hours before he reached the hospital.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Masudar Rahman said people bitten by snakes should be taken to hospital as quickly as possible rather than first seeking ritual treatment.
