Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has described a remark attributed to the president of Islami Chhatra Shibir as an open incitement to violence at educational institutions.
Chhatra Dal general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir made the accusation in a statement issued on 5 August.
Nasir said the statement responded to a remark that, if Shibir resisted, Chhatra Dal would not be able to remain on campus for even 10 minutes.
He alleged that the remark was intended to provoke confrontation and reflected an effort to revive instability at educational institutions.
Nasir further alleged that one section of Chhatra Shibir operated covertly while another was used to create conflict.
He also accused Shibir of inciting activities in campuses in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Chattogram that he characterised as intimidation and displays of force.
Nasir said Chhatra Dal believed in students’ democratic rights and peaceful coexistence rather than conflict.
He said students would collectively resist attempts to establish dominance through violence, threats or provocation.
