The Lakshmipur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal sent Abu Bakar Siddique to jail after he surrendered and sought bail in a pending murder case.
The court rejected his bail application on August 3.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Amjad Hossain said Siddique is the second accused named in the charge sheet and that the murder case remains under trial.
Siddique is described as a member of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Char Kalkini union unit in Kamalnagar upazila.
The case concerns the death of Salaha Begum, whose body was found on June 16, 2025, near the Meghna River at Motirhat in Kamalnagar.
Her daughter, Fatema Begum, filed a case against unidentified people after the body was recovered.
Police investigation materials and the charge sheet name Siddique and Selim as accused.
The charge sheet alleges that Siddique had secretly married Salaha Begum, that their relationship later ended, and that a dispute arose over Tk30 lakh said to have been given for a land purchase.
It further alleges that Siddique offered Selim Tk50,000 to kill her.
In a reported court statement, Selim said he took the victim to an isolated place, rendered her unconscious, committed sexual violence, killed her and took her jewellery.
Selim is in jail, while an arrest warrant had been issued for Siddique when he was previously described as absconding.
The supplied case accounts spell the victim’s name both as Salaha Begum and Sahela Begum, leaving the spelling unresolved.
