An Appellate Division chamber court on 6 August ordered former serviceman Hafizur Rahman to surrender within 24 hours in the case over Sohagi Jahan Tanu’s death.
The court acted on the High Court bail granted to Rahman, described as cancellation in one account and suspension in another.
It also directed police to arrest him if he did not surrender within the deadline.
Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kajal said the case would be placed before a regular Appellate Division bench on Sunday for a further order.
A High Court bench granted Rahman six months’ interim bail on 2 August and issued a rule asking why he should not receive permanent bail.
He was released from Cumilla Central Jail on 4 August after the High Court order.
Rahman was arrested in Keraniganj in April 2026, though the accounts differ on whether the arrest was made on 21 or 22 April.
He was the only person arrested in the case at the time cited by the evidence.
Rahman had served as a senior warrant officer and was posted at Cumilla Cantonment in 2016; he retired from the army in 2023.
Tanu disappeared on 20 March 2016 while going to tutor inside Cumilla Cantonment, and her body was later found in a bush within the cantonment.
Her father, Iyar Hossain, filed a murder case against unidentified people at Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station.
The identity of those responsible for Tanu’s killing had not been established in the evidence provided.
