The Appellate Division’s chamber court suspended the interim bail of retired military member Hafizur Rahman and ordered him to surrender within 24 hours.
The order concerns the case over the death of Cumilla Victoria Government College student Sohagi Jahan, known as Tanu.
Chamber Justice Md Rezaul Haque made the order after hearing the state’s challenge to the High Court bail decision.
The state sought permission to appeal in an effort to suspend the High Court’s bail order.
Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kajal said the court also ordered Rahman’s arrest if he does not surrender within the stipulated 24 hours.
Kajal said the chamber court set the next hearing for Sunday.
The High Court had granted Rahman six months of interim bail on 2 August.
That court also issued a rule asking why he should not receive permanent bail.
Rahman was released from Cumilla Central Jail on the evening of 4 August after the bail order.
Investigators said a DNA sample was collected from Rahman following his arrest and that the resulting test report was filed with the court.
The evidence set gives conflicting accounts of the date and agency involved in Rahman’s arrest, and does not resolve the difference.
