Police in Lalpur said two people were arrested over the alleged snatching of a woman’s bag after she withdrew money from a bank.

The woman withdrew Tk177,000 from the Lalpur branch of Dutch-Bangla Bank at about 10:30am on Wednesday, Lalpur police officer-in-charge Md Shafiqul Islam Palash said.

Police said her bag also contained Tk3,000 that she already had, jewellery and documents.

The total value of the cash and other belongings in the bag was estimated at about Tk180,000, police said.

Police alleged that two people on a motorcycle pulled the bag away near a bridge beside the Youth Development Complex while the woman was travelling home by van.

The woman fell from the moving van and was injured, police said, adding that local people arranged initial treatment.

After receiving a written complaint, police said they used technical and intelligence information to begin an investigation.

A police team arrested the two suspects during an early-morning operation in Meherpur, police said.

Police said Tk170,000 in cash and a motorcycle they allege was used in the incident were recovered.

The two suspects were sent to Natore jail through a court, while efforts to recover the remaining cash, jewellery and documents continued, police said.
