A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate ordered former joint secretary Syed Jaglul Pasha to seven days of police remand in a case linked to alleged obstruction outside Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan residence.
Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam issued the order on August 6 after hearing both sides.
Defence lawyers sought cancellation of the remand request, while the prosecution opposed that request.
Police had sought 10 days of remand for Pasha.
In the remand application, the investigator said questioning Pasha could help clarify the case and assist efforts to arrest other accused people who remain at large.
The application identifies Pasha as accused number 17 in the case.
The complaint concerns alleged events on December 28 and 29, 2013, when Khaleda Zia was preparing to travel to a rally.
It alleges that 111 named people, including Pasha, and 250 to 300 unidentified people gathered near her residence with weapons and assaulted members of the BNP and its affiliated organisations.
The complaint further alleges that trucks, including sand trucks, were used to block nearby roads and prevent Khaleda Zia from leaving for the rally.
It also alleges that pepper spray was used with intent to kill, injuring Khaleda Zia and people accompanying her.
Shariful Islam Shawon filed the case at Gulshan police station in October 2024.
The remand order permits police questioning and does not determine whether the allegations are proven.
