A Dhaka magistrate court on Monday granted police a two-day remand for Md Sohel Rana, the husband of dentist Sara Roksana, 42, in the case over her killing in the capital's Dakshinkhan area.
The investigating officer had sought seven days for interrogation, and the order was confirmed by sub-inspector Abu Bakar Siddique of the court's prosecution branch.
Police said Roksana's body was found on 30 July in the family's Faydabad flat with a pillow pressed over her face, a cut window grille, and gold ornaments worth about 2 million taka reported missing.
Her 10-year-old daughter told police she returned from school, found her mother unresponsive, and alerted her father through the school principal; the girl also said her mother normally locked the door from inside but it was not locked that day.
In the remand petition, police cited matching footprints on the inner verandah, the absence of outside footprints or noise from neighbors, an intact cupboard used by the husband, and neatly arranged empty jewelry boxes as reasons to doubt the burglary theory.
Defense lawyer Shahabuddin Sheikh opposed the remand and sought bail, saying his client was arrested illegally and had marital discord with his wife but did not kill her; the husband told journalists outside court that he had been framed.
The police petition also recorded the victim's family's allegations that Rana had long subjected Roksana to abuse, had relationships with other women, and that she had voiced safety fears to her sister days before her death.
Roksana's sister filed the murder case a day after the body was found, and the body was sent for autopsy to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
