Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud met US Embassy Political and Economic Counselor Eric Gilan at the ministry on 4 August.
US Embassy Economic Officer Joseph Boskio also attended the meeting.
The participants discussed expanding cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States in the energy sector.
Liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas were among the areas raised in the talks.
They also discussed the possibility of signing memorandums of understanding where cooperation could be developed.
The discussion addressed closer government-to-government cooperation and greater participation by US businesses in Bangladesh's energy sector in connection with the prime minister's planned visit to the United States.
The meeting also considered existing challenges and practical ways to address them.
Mahmud called for a follow-up meeting with relevant parties as soon as possible to support energy-security efforts.
The US delegation said it would provide full support for Bangladesh's continued progress in the energy sector.
