Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) says it has put in place a broad, multi-layered security plan across the capital for 5 August, when the July mass uprising day will be observed, to keep law and order normal and ensure public safety.
In a notice issued on 4 August by its Media and Public Relations department, DMP said picket and checkpoint duties had been significantly increased, with searches and checkpoints to be strengthened at all entry points to the metropolis.
Plainclothes officers from the Detective Branch and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit will be deployed at important venues, while CTSB and IAD units will continue plainclothes intelligence operations.
At locations where large crowds are expected, SWAT, bomb disposal units and dog squads will carry out special sweeping operations, and event venues and the July memorial area will be monitored around the clock by CCTV cameras and drones.
DMP said sufficient Quick Response Teams are ready for emergencies, additional police members will be deployed alongside regular forces, RAB and CID will work jointly, and senior police officers will directly supervise on the ground.
DMP said the measures address possible sabotage, untoward incidents and risks of disruption to public safety.
