Prime Minister Tarek Rahman has assured full cooperation for ensuring safe and effective water management, protection of the environment and sustainable development.
He gave the assurance at a consultation with experts from the environment, water and engineering sectors held on 4 August at his office in the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat.
The consultation was led by the social development organisation Footsteps Bangladesh, with experts and representatives of several institutions taking part.
Participants recommended long- and medium-term planning, increased use of modern technology, stronger coordination among agencies and measures that account for climate change impacts.
The discussions covered restoration of canals, stability of rivers and dams, better urban drainage, wastewater treatment, rainwater management and coordinated urban planning amid rapid urbanisation.
Among those attending were Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Deputy Minister Mir Shah Alam, Principal Secretary A B M Abdus Sattar and BNP Special Secretary Belayet Hossain.
Hasan Shiplu, deputy press secretary to the prime minister, confirmed that the consultation took place.
