A woman and her mother died after an attack at a fifth-floor residence in the Kathalbagan area of Kalabagan on Sunday morning.
The precise time and address differ between the accounts, which place the incident at about 8am or 9am near Al Amin Mosque Road.
The deceased daughter was identified as Ratri, 20, by police, while her father identified her as Farzana Akter, 21.
Her mother was identified as Firoza Begum, with her age given as 35 by police and 34 by her husband.
Kalabagan police said an argument occurred between the woman and her husband, Shipon, before he allegedly used a sharp weapon to injure both women.
Firoza Begum’s husband said he arrived at the residence to find his daughter dead and Firoza critically injured.
The mother was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she was declared dead, while the daughter was said to have died at the residence.
Police said Shipon went to Kalabagan police station after the incident, but Firoza Begum’s husband said Shipon left the home with his one-year-old son.
Police said Shipon told them that he and his wife had divorced but were still living together.
The father said an earlier disagreement between the couple had begun during a family wedding gathering in Shariatpur.
The differing accounts do not establish the sequence after the attack or resolve the conflicting identification details.
