The Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association has asked the Ministry of Commerce to allow higher edible-oil prices.
Its proposal seeks a Tk10 increase per litre for bottled soybean oil.
It also seeks a Tk17-per-litre increase for loose palm oil.
The association cited higher international prices and increased transport costs as reasons for the request.
It sent a letter to the ministry proposing that the new prices take effect from 11 July.
Ministry officials met business representatives on that date, but did not approve the proposed increases at the meeting.
No final government approval had been issued for the proposal at the time of publication.
The Ministry of Commerce previously approved a Tk4-per-litre rise in soybean oil prices on 29 April.
Following that decision, the price of bottled soybean oil rose from Tk195 to Tk199 per litre.
The listed price of a five-litre bottle rose from Tk955 to Tk975.
Loose soybean oil increased from Tk176 to Tk180 per litre, while loose palm oil remained at Tk166 per litre.
