The Election Commission announced the schedule for the presidential election, with voting set for 20 August.
The schedule was announced on Thursday by senior secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, Akhtar Ahmed, at a press conference.
Under the schedule, nomination papers can be submitted on 13 August, scrutiny will take place on 16 August, and the last date for withdrawal of candidacy is 18 August.
If more than one candidate contests, voting will be held in the National Parliament's session hall from 2pm to 5pm on 20 August.
Chief Election Commissioner A.M.M. Nasir Uddin will serve as the presiding officer for the election, with the CEC's office serving as the venue for nomination submission and scrutiny.
According to the Presidential Election Act 1991, the president is elected by members of parliament, and a candidate's nomination must include one MP as proposer and another as seconder, along with the candidate's own consent signature.
If only one candidate remains, that candidate is declared elected unopposed; since the start of parliamentary democracy in 1991, the ruling party's candidate has typically won unopposed, with voting required only once in 1991.
The election follows the resignation of President Md. Sahabuddin on 24 July, and the Election Commission is required to arrange the election within 90 days of the resignation.
