A police investigator has submitted a final report to a Bogura court recommending the discharge of all 104 accused in a case over the death of Ripon Fakir.
Sub-Inspector Ferdous Ali of the district detective branch submitted the report in July.
Ripon's wife, Mabia Begum, filed the case on 17 September 2024, alleging that he was shot while taking part in a procession in Bogura's Jhautala area on 4 August 2024.
The complaint named a former prime minister and 103 others, and alleged that the first 13 accused had incited the attack.
The investigation recorded statements from 22 witnesses and found accounts that differed from the complaint.
Mabia Begum and six other witnesses told investigators that Ripon became ill on 5 August after bread lodged in his throat in the Godarpara area, and died while being taken to hospital.
A shopkeeper also told investigators that Ripon fell ill after eating bread.
Three shop employees in Jhautala said they had not seen the incident described in the complaint, while the investigation found that shops in the area were closed from 1 to 5 August.
Ferdous Ali said the complaint contained factual errors and that the recommendation to discharge the accused was based on the evidence collected.
Mabia Begum said some villagers had told her that filing a case could lead to martyr recognition for Ripon and government assistance, and that she signed papers at a police station in that expectation.
The evidence does not state whether the court has accepted the final report or issued any order on the case.
