Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie spoke at a July rally in Lakshmipur held under the district BNP banner.

Annie alleged that the National Citizen Party, or NCP, had become aligned with Jamaat-Shibir leadership.

He described Jamaat-Shibir as Bangladesh’s only opposition force and contrasted it with the BNP’s nationalist political tradition.

The minister accused his political opponents of making insulting remarks about BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

He said the BNP had rules and had removed or expelled members over conduct he considered unacceptable.

Annie further alleged that the groups he criticised had fractured anti-fascist unity and political cohesion after “the 5th.”

He referred to the 2023 killing of Krishak Dal leader Sajib in Lakshmipur and alleged that those he called Jamaat-Shibir supporters had not participated in the preceding movement.

The item does not include a response from the NCP, Jamaat, or Shibir to the minister’s allegations.

The date of the rally remains unclear because the item was published on 4 August 2026 but identifies the event as Tuesday, “4 July.”}],

Abul Khayer Bhuiyan, a BNP chairperson’s adviser and lawmaker for Lakshmipur-2, was listed as the rally’s chief guest.
