A man identified as Hamdu Mia was killed in a clash in Bijoynagar, Brahmanbaria, on Saturday.
Police linked the violence to a dispute that began during a ludo game between two children on Friday afternoon.
Police said Hamdu Mia’s 11-year-old son and another 12-year-old boy became involved in an altercation during the game.
Police and local accounts alleged that the second child suffered a head injury after Hamdu Mia struck him with a stick.
Police said a group later went to Hamdu Mia’s home, after which people from both sides clashed with locally made weapons.
Police accounts differed on the weapon described, but said Hamdu Mia was fatally injured during the violence.
His age was given as 53 in two accounts and 50 in another.
The number of people injured was also unclear, with figures ranging from at least 15 to at least 20.
Police said several injured people were admitted to local hospitals, and one person, Liton Mia, was taken for further treatment.
Accounts placed the incident in Harashpur union but differed on whether the locality was Paikpara village or Baigda Bonderbari.
Bijoynagar police said they were investigating and taking legal action.
Additional Superintendent of Police M M Rakib Ur Raza said the situation was under control and that extra police had been deployed amid concern about further violence.
