Actor Pradeep Singh Rawat, known for playing Ghajini Dharmatma in Ghajini, has died aged 74, his manager Siddharth Tiwari said.
Tiwari said Rawat had been battling blood cancer and had been in hospital for more than a month after the illness returned.
Rawat was born on January 21, 1952, in Jabalpur in India’s Madhya Pradesh state.
He began acting on television and became widely known for portraying Ashwatthama in the Mahabharat serial.
His film debut came with Aetbaar in 1985.
He later appeared in films including Agneepath, Koyla, Sarfarosh and Major Saab.
Rawat played Deva Singh Sodhi in Lagaan, released in 2001.
He played Ghajini Dharmatma in the 2005 Tamil film Ghajini and again in its 2008 Hindi adaptation.
His work also extended to Telugu cinema, where he received a Filmfare award for best villain for Sai.
Over a career spanning more than four decades, he acted in more than 100 films and television productions across several languages.
His recent releases included Chhaava, the Telugu film Gayapadda Simham and the Nepali film Aa Bata Aama.
Rawat is survived by his wife and his son, Vikramaditya.
