Police said they detained nine people during an operation at a torch procession in Aminbazar, Savar.
The operation took place overnight on Friday near Timtex Garments beside Salehpur Bridge on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, police said.
Police described the gathering as a torch procession by 80 to 90 Awami League activists.
Police said the participants dispersed after officers reached the area.
Officers said they seized one digital banner, five torches and three motorcycles.
Savar Model Police Station officer-in-charge Saiful Alam confirmed the arrests on Saturday.
Alam said the detainees had been sent to court with a request for three days of remand.
Police characterized the Awami League as an organisation whose activities had been prohibited.
The evidence does not state whether the court granted the remand request or identify any charges filed against the detainees.
