On the night of 4 August, the Feni district unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal held a programme at the Central Shaheed Minar in Feni city that combined a photo exhibition, a discussion meeting, and a symbolic court to mark the second anniversary of the July mass uprising.
Organizers set up a mock courtroom on the Shaheed Minar podium, with people acting as judge, state prosecutor, witnesses, security force members, and accused persons in the dock.
The symbolic court announced death sentences and then carried out symbolic hangings for former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Feni district Awami League general secretary Nizam Uddin Hazari, former Feni MPs Alauddin Nasim and Masud Uddin Chowdhury, and Awami League officials Shusen Chandra Shil and Swapan Miazi.
According to the organizers, the symbolic prosecution presented testimony and photographs concerning the killings at Mahipal on 4 August 2024 before the verdict was announced.
District BNP convener Sheikh Farid Bahar alleged that Hazari and his followers fired indiscriminately and committed killings in Mahipal on 4 August 2024, and he said the illegal weapons used had still not been recovered and related court cases were not moving at the expected pace.
Bahar also said Sheikh Hasina had recently said in a video message that she would return to Bangladesh by December, and, referring to the Bilonia border crossing, he said the group would wait there with garlands and give her due hospitality.
Chief guest Abu Taleb, a member of BNP's central executive committee, said Feni residents wanted trials for the killing of those who died in the July uprising and that the district BNP would take legal initiative to expedite the Mahipal case.
District Chhatra Dal president Salahuddin Mamun presided and general secretary Morshed Alam Milon moderated; after the programme, participants visited the photo exhibition and offered prayers for those killed and injured in the uprising.
