Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is holding nationwide protests on August 5, the third anniversary of founder Imran Khan's arrest in 2023, with the principal gathering in Peshawar.
Party central information secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said the Peshawar event will be a large public gathering and that regional and local leaders will arrange separate protests in the other three provinces.
Akram alleged that PTI activists are facing raids and arrests, especially in Punjab, and said the party will remain peaceful, declaring that there is no place for violence in PTI.
Imran Khan's sisters and party lawyers went to Adiala jail on Tuesday but were denied a meeting with him, according to his sister Aleema Khan and lawyer Awaiz Younus Chaudhry.
Aleema Khan said her brother's release movement has already started and she hopes Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi will announce the next phase at the Peshawar gathering.
Provincial deputy information secretary Ikram Khattana said the next protest program will be announced at the rally, where provincial president Junaid Akbar Khan and Chief Minister Afridi are expected to attend.
In Karachi, PTI president Raja Azhar said a permit request for a protest outside the Press Club remains unanswered and the party fears authorities may block roads as they did previously.
The Rawalpindi district administration rejected PTI's request for a rally at Liaquat Bagh on security grounds and because of the Yaum-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir observance, while PTI said it will demonstrate there and on Murree Road and alleged police detained at least nine of its activists.
