DMP says 419 arrested in 24-hour operations across Dhaka

Dhaka Metropolitan Police said it arrested 419 people in regular operations across the capital over the previous 24 hours.

The police said 71 cases were filed in connection with various alleged offences.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Niaz Mehdi said Mirpur division accounted for 96 arrests, followed by Tejgaon with 66.

DMP listed 48 arrests in Gulshan, 46 in Wari, 44 in Uttara, 43 in Lalbagh, 39 in Motijheel, 28 in Ramna and nine by the detective branch.

Police said the items seized included 21 mobile phones, 14 laptops, 28 VoIP machines and 4,846 SIM cards.

The seizure list also included 14 kilograms of cannabis, 914 yaba tablets, 350.8 grams of heroin, 26 bottles of foreign liquor, a private car and Tk 209,700 in cash.

DMP said legal proceedings against those arrested were under way.
