Three members of a family suffered burn injuries in an explosion in Dudhlmou village of Bharpasha Union, Bakerganj, Barishal, on August 3.
The blast occurred at about 6am beside the home of শাহ Alam Howlader.
The injured were identified as Shah Alam Howlader’s wife Hanufa Begum, daughter Eti and grandson Fahim.
They were initially taken to Bakerganj উপজেলা Health Complex and were later referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for further treatment.
Jamal Howlader, Shah Alam’s son, said an object resembling a bomb exploded inside a sand-filled sack kept beside the house.
He said the three victims caught fire and entered the Tutatola River in front of the house to put out the flames.
Jamal Howlader said the family did not know how the object came to be there.
Bakerganj police reached the scene, secured the area and collected evidence.
Officer-in-charge Adil Hossain said police were investigating the incident.
He said the type of explosive and whether anyone was involved could not be confirmed before the investigation is completed.
