A fire broke out at the official residence of Pakistan's High Commissioner in Dhaka's Baridhara diplomatic area in the early hours of 6 August 2026.
Fire Service received the alert at about 4:56 am and dispatched two units from Baridhara fire station, which found limited flames but heavy smoke and extinguished the fire using water.
A Fire Service media cell official said the fire was initially believed to have started from an electrical fault in a television set.
High Commissioner Imran Haider and his wife Naima Imran were taken to Continental Hospital in Gulshan around 9 am after suffering from smoke inhalation.
Hospital admission officials said the High Commissioner was admitted to the ICU, while his wife was placed in a cabin.
A hospital source described the condition of both patients as stable, according to a separate account.
The Pakistan High Commission sent a note verbale to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the incident.
