Detective Branch police said they arrested former joint secretary Syed Jaglul Pasha near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on the night of 4 August.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch chief and additional commissioner Shafiqul Islam confirmed the arrest on 5 August.
Police said Pasha had returned to Dhaka by air from Cox’s Bazar before he was detained.
Police said the arrest relates to allegations that he prepared forged documents and gave false testimony in the Zia Orphanage Trust case involving former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
Those allegations have not been established by a court in the supplied evidence.
Police also said Pasha is named in cases connected to the killing of Parvez during the anti-discrimination student movement, an Operation Eagle Hunt matter in Shibganj, and the killing of BNP leader Altab Hossain in Daulatpur.
Police further said he is named in a Special Powers Act case at Gulshan police station.
Police alleged that he was connected to a 2013 case over obstruction involving sand-filled trucks outside a BNP office in Banani.
