Three staff linked to a bKash agency were injured after armed assailants stopped a passenger bus in Teknaf on 2 August.
The incident occurred near Bridge No. 14 in the Damdamia area, on the Cox’s Bazar–Teknaf road, at about 1:45pm.
The bus was travelling from Teknaf toward Cox’s Bazar when it was forced to stop.
Witness accounts described a barricade of wood fitted with nails being placed on the road before the assailants boarded the bus.
The assailants allegedly targeted the agency staff, assaulted them and fired shots before taking a bag of cash and fleeing toward nearby hills.
The workers said they had withdrawn about Tk5.7 million from a bank in Teknaf to distribute to agents in Hnila and Whykong.
Teknaf Model Police Station officer-in-charge Md Saiful Islam confirmed that cash had been snatched during the attack but said the exact sum remained unconfirmed.
Arman, Sakib and Ekram were taken to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Arman was reported to have been shot, while the accounts do not provide a complete medical description of the other injuries.
Police seized the bus and said police, Border Guard Bangladesh and Coast Guard personnel began a joint operation in the area.
Police said the driver and helper were brought in for questioning.
Arman alleged that investigators should examine whether the driver or others had colluded with the attackers, citing questions about how the cash movement became known.
