Dhaka Metropolitan Police said it arrested 419 people during regular operations in different police-station areas of the capital over the previous 24 hours.

Police said 71 cases were filed in connection with various alleged offences during that period.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Niaz Mehdi of the force's Media and Public Relations Division disclosed the figures on 3 August.

Police said officers recovered 21 mobile phones, 14 laptops, 28 VoIP machines and 4,846 SIM cards of different companies.

The force also listed electrical equipment, 52 cable connectors, 16 data-connector machines, a power-supply unit, a CCTV camera and 12 laptop chargers among the recovered items.

Police said the seizures included 26 bottles of foreign liquor, a private car and 209,700 taka in cash.

Police further said they recovered 14 kilograms of cannabis, 914 yaba tablets and 350.8 grams of heroin.

Legal action against the arrested people was under way, police said.
