Jubairul Alam, a central executive member of the National Citizens Party (NCP), told a rally at Anwara upazila, Chittagong, that he wanted to ask the police and OC whether they had seen '36 July', when angry students and masses burned police stations and police were beaten to blood.
The rally, held by an 11-party alliance at Chatri Chowmuhuni Tunnel Mor, was organized on August 5 to mark the second anniversary of the July uprising, demanding implementation of the referendum verdict, democracy, justice, good governance, and people's rights.
Alam accused the Anwara upazila and thana administrations of partisan nepotism, saying no file moves without the MP's directive and that government assistance is distributed among BNP leaders.
He claimed that recruitment under 'family cards' is taking place and that ordinary students are told to bring recommendations from the MP.
Alam warned that if the administration tries to become the Awami League again, they will not be allowed to return to state power.
A video of the speech, about 3 minutes 54 seconds long, circulated on social media and was shared by Alam on his own Facebook wall.
In response to the video's spread, Alam said the video did not capture his full speech, and he does not want public anger to increase or a confrontation with the administration like during the July movement.
The rally was chaired by Abdul Gani, president of Anwara upazila Jamaat-e-Islami, and moderated by Mohammad Abul Hasan, the upazila Jamaat secretary.
