National Chhatra Shakti’s Jagannath University unit held a protest march and rally at the university’s main gate on 5 August.
The programme followed a confrontation the previous day involving Chhatra Dal and several student groups.
Protest organisers alleged that Chhatra Dal attacked members of National Chhatra Shakti, Jagannath University Central Students’ Union, Islami Chhatra Shibir, the available report Mancha and other students.
Shahin Mia alleged that the university administration encouraged the attack and shared responsibility with Chhatra Dal.
Mia said more than 60 students and activists from different groups were injured.
He said students had sought to present demands concerning the second campus to the University Grants Commission chairman during an administration-organised programme, but were prevented from doing so.
The protesters called for those identified as responsible for the violence to be permanently expelled.
They also sought temporary accommodation for students on seven acres of university land and transfer of all second-campus construction work to the army.
The group specified that the temporary accommodation should be arranged within six months.
Other demands included ending non-student political activity on campus, ensuring security for all students, and resuming campus and academic activities from the next day.
Protest speakers said the campus belonged to its students rather than to any political organisation.
The evidence does not include a response from Chhatra Dal or the university administration to the allegations.
