National Student Shakti’s Jagannath University branch held a protest at the university’s main gate on 5 August and announced five demands.
The action followed an incident during a placard demonstration on 4 August over campus facilities and the second-campus project.
National Student Shakti alleged that Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists attacked its members, student-union representatives, Islami Chhatra Shibir members, other students and journalists during that demonstration.
The two accounts said several people, including National Student Shakti’s university president, the Islami Chhatra Shibir university president and the student-union vice president, were injured.
The group called for the second-campus work to be handed to the army for implementation and for tender-related irregularities and corruption to end.
It also demanded a ban on political activity by non-students on campus and prompt legal action to identify and prosecute those responsible for the alleged attack.
Its housing demand called for temporary accommodation for between 1,600 and 1,700 students within six months, alongside security guarantees for all students.
Branch general secretary Ferdous Sheikh alleged that the university administration and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal bore joint responsibility for the incident.
Branch president Shahin Mia alleged that injured students were attacked again when they sought treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and demanded accountability for any administrative members involved.
Speakers at the protest also criticised the decision to close the campus after the incident.
