Bangladeshi actor Ilias Kanchan, chairman of road-safety organization Nischa, left Heathrow Airport late on 2 August with his wife and son-in-law and was expected to reach Dhaka on 3 August.
Nischa vice-chairman Liton Ershad confirmed the departure and said Kanchan had chosen to come home because he was restless after more than 15 months abroad and wanted time in Bangladesh before the next phase of treatment.
Kanchan has been treated in London since April of last year for a brain tumor; surgery that August removed a large part of the tumor but not all of it because of the risk.
Doctors, cited by Ershad, later told Kanchan the tumor was brain cancer and say the disease remains at its original site and has not spread elsewhere in the body.
Ershad said Kanchan's physical condition is not very good and has shown little improvement, and that he can speak only slowly, sometimes struggling to complete a sentence.
His eating is mostly normal but he no longer keeps a regular meal schedule, according to Ershad.
Family sources cited by Ershad say Kanchan received about 100 chemotherapy sessions across the three phases, including more than 60 during a 12-week period.
